At Hawthorn Park we have begun to develop a Forest School programme across the school.
Forest School is an inspiring, child led method of learning in and from the natural environment that has shown to help children develop their self-confidence, resilience and self-esteem.
The sessions will run weekly on the school field for the term, for one afternoon each week. The children will need to remember to bring a change of clothes that they are able to get dirty - a long sleeved top, jogging bottoms and old trainers will be ideal.
Over the course of the sessions, we hope to be able to take the children off the school site to enable them to experience Forest School in a woodland environment - this aspect of Forest School is still in the development stages.
Forest School takes place in all weather so your child will also need waterproofs or a sun hat/cream appropriate to the day. When it is very cold, layers work best, for example a long sleeved t-shirt under an ordinary top, with a jumper or sweatshirt and a coat over the top of that. When it is muddy a change of shoes is essential!
During their time at Forest School children will play games, build dens and models with sticks and other natural materials, work independently and as part of a team and hopefully begin to enjoy the outdoors!
