At Hawthorn Park Community Primary School, every child has the opportunity to develop a passion for Music. The children are taught a range of progressive musical skills whilst learning about different genres of music. Throughout their time at Hawthorn Park the children are taught to play percussion, ocarina, recorder and the glockenspiel.
We aim to increase the children’s cultural capital by exposing them to and letting them experience a wide range of musical styles and instruments from a wide range of cultures.
Each week, a new musician/genre will be elected to become our Music/Musician of the Week. We spend time listening to these pieces of music and learning about the musicians/composers behind the melody.
To further enhance the children’s musical experience we have a lunchtime school choir club. Children who enjoy singing are encouraged to join the thriving school choir, split into a Key Stage 1 and a Key Stage 2 group. The choir perform at internal school performances, as well as within the community – for example at the local Day Centre for the Elderly and The Grove Theatre.
